When my wife told me that our marriage was over and that she met with an attorney, I told her that although it was not what I wanted, that I would make it as easy as possible. I hired an attorney who specializes in collaborative divorces, whereby issues are negotiated between parties and attorneys, outside of a court process. It's a non-adverserial approach and is allowing us to work on a reasonable platform. It helps that we both agree on shared physical custody and are basically nice people. I'm still heartbroken, but I feel that this way I can end things reasonable and continue to have a relationship in terms of our children and to otherwise be there for each other as friends.
