Most people have heard of at least one couple that battled through the divorce process, pumping fists like Rocky on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum after it was over, only to send out new wedding invitations months or years later. When high-profile couples do this, the juicy details can titillate fans.
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton
Perhaps the most famous on-again, off-again marriage took place decades ago. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton married for the first time in 1964. It was all illicit shenanigans at first because both were married to others when they tumbled head over heels into a well-publicized affair. They remained married for 10 years, then divorced in 1974, but they kept their distance for only 16 months before remarrying. Unfortunately, their second marriage ended for good just two years later.
P!nk and Carey Hart
P!nk burst onto the pop music scene in 2000 with three Top 10 singles. Sometime later, she proposed to her Motocross racer boyfriend, Carey Hart, at one of his races. The marriage lasted a mere two years, ending in 2008. In 2010, P!nk announced to Oprah that she and Carey were back together, and that they have a daughter, Willow Sage. P!nk obligingly kept her fans up to speed on her marital situation with songs like, "So What?"
Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito
Actors Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito broke fans' hearts in late 2012 when they announced they were divorcing after 30 years of marriage. Rumors surfaced that DeVito was a bit of a womanizer, but he reportedly mended his ways and devoted himself to wooing Perlman back – and it worked. The couple announced in March 2013 that they were back together.
Tabloids went crazy in May 2015, alleging that the marriage was clearly on the rocks again because the couple had put their home up for sale. But tabloids are…well, tabloids, and as of 2016, the couple appears to be still happily together.
Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink
From 2005 through the 2015 season finale, Patrick Dempsey played the character McDreamy on the hit TV show "Grey's Anatomy," enjoying a titillating and never-quite-off screen relationship with character Meredith Grey. McDreamy was killed off in May 2015 amid swirling rumors that Dempsey – a married man in real life – was having an affair with a show staffer. His wife, Jillian Fink, filed for divorce, but in January 2016, sources reported in People Magazine that the couple is calling off the divorce.
If you keep up with the Kardashians, you know this clan is famous for its on-again, off-again relationships. For example, Sister Khloe married NBA star Lamar Odom in 2009. After years of watching Lamar struggle with drug addiction, Khloe filed for divorce. But she told talk show host Ryan Seacrest that it was an ultimatum – her friends convinced her to "use the divorce card" to get him to shape up.
The divorce lingered, never quite finalizing, and when Lamar was found unconscious from a drug overdose in Las Vegas in late 2015, Khloe reportedly aborted the proceedings. She was quick to tell People Magazine that they weren't actually back together, however, and Us Magazine reported in November 2015 that Khloe was currently dating another NBA star.
